Philippe Froguel; M.D., Ph.D., DEA

Dr. Froguel is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Genomic Medicine, Division of Medicine, Hammersmith Hospital at Imperial College in London, England. He is Head of the Hammersmith Genome Centre at Imperial College of Medicine. Earlier, Dr. Froguel was a Professor of Molecular Genetics & Experimental Diabetes at Queen Mary & Wesfield College, University of London, and Director of The Bart & The London Genome Center in London. Even earlier, he was an Invited Professor of Genetics of Lausanne University in France. Earlier still, Dr. Froguel was Director of the CNRS research unit UMR8090 «Genomic» associated with Lille 2 University & the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. He was a tenured Professor at the Maitre de Conférences des Universités-Praticien Hospitalier in Genetics & Endocrinology at the University of Paris. During this period he was Director of the CEPH (Human Polymorphism Study Center) laboratory of Genetics of Non Insulin Dependent (type 2) Diabetes Mellitus & Obesity & responsible for the constitution of the CEPH DNA collections at the Lariboisière Medical School of University & Medical School. Dr. Froguel began his medical career as an Assistant Professor and Chief of the Clinic in Endocrinology Department of the St. Loius Hospital-Lariboisere - St. Louis Medical School at the University of Paris. He is a member of the Italian Telethon Scientific Committee. Dr. Froguel holds a M.D., Ph.D. and Master's (in Nutrition) degrees from the University of Paris in Paris France. His medical residency specialty in endocrinology was in nutrition and diabetology. Dr. Froguel was elected to the British Academy for Medical Sciences. He holds several honors and awards including: Recipient of the grants for research of the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale; Silver medallist of Paris Internat - award for residents; Recipient of the Lipha drugs company grant for research in diabetes; Recipient of the grants for research of Paris Hospitals; "Generation 2000" award for young French medical researchers attributed by the Medec medical meeting board & the Health Insurance Company Mutualité Française; R Fauvert Award of Paris Hospitals attributed by the Scientific Committee of Paris' professors of Medicine; Career Development Award - Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; Award of the French charity Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale; Apollinaire Bouchardat Award attributed by the board of French Association for the study of Diabetes, ALFEDIAM; Minkowski Prize of the European Association of the Study of Diabetes; Nestle prize on Human Nutrition; and the 10th Poll Visiting Scholar Professor of the University of Washington - Seattle, USA. Dr. Froguel has authored and co-authored many scientific studies and papers on nutrition.
