Douglas C. LaGarde; M.D., A.B.
Dr. LaGarde currently conducts a clinical Pediatric Gastroenterology practice at both Morehead Memorial and Ashville Specialty Hospitals in Ashville, NC. Earlier, he was an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in Nutrition and Hepatology and Section Chief in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. There he treated children with gastrointestinal and nutritional disorders at the Tulane Hospital for Children. Earlier still, Dr. LaGarde had practiced in General Pediatrics while in the Army, and at the Ochsner Clinic for thirteen years. He trained under Dr. Gerald Merenstein, who provided him with an interest and expertise in the N.I.C.U. Furthermore, Dr. LaGarde conducted nutrition rounds in Ochsner's N.I.C.U., which afforded him an unique opportunity to learn how difficult it is to care for premies from neonatologists Jay Goldsmith and Harley Ginsburg, and the many PNP's and NICU nurses. Even earlier, he conducted his Pediatric G.I. training at U.T.M.B. in Galveston, TX, practicing Pediatric G.I. and nutrition for ten years thereafter. Dr. LaGarde holds a M.D. degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans, LA and conducted his residency in Pediatrics at the Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, CO. In addition, he conducted a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Liver Disease at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, and by the Pediatrics, American Board of Pediatrics.
